SOULBATH PEACE FOUNDATION OFFERS A HAND TO HIV POSITIVE WOMEN IN INDIA
Redefining Positive Women- Towards Sustainable Living
HIV Positive Women around the world have been portrayed as victims who need help. PWN+ network has identified that their need now is to move beyond this through hope to making a living and celebrate it. Soulbath Peace Foundation was invited to help PWN+ make this transition by working on policies, their vision and values.
TESTIMONIALS - What PWN+ Board Members felt through the Transition

Lily – Manipur
There are 3 stages for HIV Positive women. Victim is where she begins her life with fear, tension and anger. But life does not have to end that way. She should be capable of looking after herself and be stable – living a good quality of life. After a decade of PWN+ with 200% success in reaching out to the positive women in states and districts, now it is time to move forward towards changing life towards a sustainable livelihood. PWN+ goal, vision and value have to focus on women to live an independent life & living that life with dignity.

P. Kousalya (President, PWN+)
In these 3 days I learnt Patience. It helped me understand different people and where they come from. The interactions were personalized by all the participants as I could see each person involving from their hearts deep down. The questions that everybody was asking showed that they were really feeling it inside. So far from childhood, I never understood how to love anything because nothing belonged to me. This workshop intensely helped me realize to love myself. I am changed now and it has helped me love something and that’s when the purpose unveils itself. I have aspired for these changes for a very long time. But I didn’t know how to make it happen for PWN+. I didn’t sleep last night as I was so much involved. Today now I feel relaxed and the vision is now more wholesome. My deepest desire is wellbeing of women but this I have understood after this long journey and this is our focus from now. When we give ourselves fully and truly we can then give back to others the same way. This can influence the lives of children and families. This is a sustainable way of living life and goes beyond HIV. This is universal and today I can see how this movement fits in to a larger wholesome role of a woman who is independent and happy.

SPF VOLUNTEERS VISIT Asha Niketan – A Home for mentally challenged

Picture
Our interaction with mentally challenged inmates at Asha Niketan was mainly through a celebration comprising of music and dance by the communities as a family. Dancing to “Jaya Ho”, singing Bhajans together as we all joined in were different ways of saying –“I care for you.”, “I accept you”. Sometimes we take things for granted in life. Smallest acts of moving, eating, laughing, sharing can be done differently and there are so many versions of doing the same thing. At the end we served home cooked food to all.

SPF VOLUNTEERS VISIT Mercy Home - A home for the mentally challenged

Picture
Mercy home is tucked in a quiet serene environment amidst the rush in Bangalore City. It has only women who were found in bushes, thrown away on the streets and carried back to be cleaned & taken care in this beautiful home. Soulbath Peace Foundation volunteers carried an apple and a bun that was relished by every inmate. Though most of the people were mentally challenged and above the age of 35, these women were very calm in nature.

“When there is peace, we feel happy” echoed the women at Mercy Home and gave their versions of Peace that is – fulfillment in the soul and joy. There were older inmates who were above 90 years of age and were still responding quite well when spoken to in their mother tongue. There was a lot of happiness at Mercy Home as we carried along the message of International Family Day and Soulbath Peace Foundation’s purpose of visiting them on that day.

Learning from Humanity, Growing with Humanity and Service to Humanity

The RB-BTS DREAM - The Golden Thread connecting all

Picture
With the core essence of the Raj Bhowmik Back-To-Society DREAM (RB-BTS DREAM), the SAHHEAL Healing Consultant Certification extended a unique opportunity for individuals to learn, grow and serve. To support people who need our services the most in society, SAHHEAL Interns reached out to students at Mitrajyothi to provide them with an opportunity to refine and align their life goals and to achieve it.

Mitrajyothi is an organization that extensively works with the visually impaired students across India providing them with opportunities in training and employment. Students could participate in the interaction based on their choice and they had the privilege of having a one on one Life Consultation session for 3 consecutive weeks to address and work towards their dreams.

All of us have dreams but many of us often complain that we can’t achieve them because someone else is not supporting it. The sessions focused on discovering individual habits and traits, patterns of life at the level of mind and soul and to use the deep strength within to accept life and move effortlessly with a new perception.
Everybody's heart seemed to be singing with one voice...

"Thank you Soulbath Peace Foundation and Sri Raj Bhowmik to provide opportunities and platforms like these to hundreds of people who get a chance to make their own life worthwhile by making a difference to the world that they are living in."

INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY

Picture
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Soulbath Peace Foundation organized a platform to bring together women from all walks of life with one objective – To invoke their Inner parts and live life through it. Under the inspiration of our Founder Sri Raj Bhowmik, the evening’s theme was ‘The Soul Call’. The participants comprising of HIV+ women, Healing Consultants, journalists and film makers, all came under one roof for a journey in discovering their life through the artistic expression of Odissi dance.

Through
Soulbath Peace Foundation’s work with HIV+ women, we have realized that their world is completely in a cocoon and their Existence overpowered by HIV. As a result, it is a label that gets imprinted in their lives in the smallest actions that they do.

Celebrating Pongal and Sankranti festival in Bangalore Central Prison

Picture
Picture
SPF mention a special thanks to all the government officials & Government of Karnataka who supported us to make this possible.

A New Birth-Moving Beyond – From Fear to Compassion

Pongal and Sankranti are festivals of harvest. It begins with clearing the clutter and reaping the harvest. This symbolic interaction to the Bangalore Central Prison on this auspicious day began our work of sowing the seeds of hope and an inner passion to be useful in life.

Bangalore Central Prison – Even in the wildest thoughts, one can only have a single image – Locked, trapped, fearful, cheat or criminals. As part of the ‘RAJ BHOWMIK – Back To Society DREAM’, the Soulbath Peace Foundation Volunteers reached the prison only to discover that life was different inside. It is a community that needs assistance because inside each of the 160 inmates we met today – were mothers who have not met their children for about 5 years, were wives who have been rejected by their husbands, were young children who were being brought up seeing their mothers in white sarees as uniform and of a new born – coming into the world inside the prison.
Picture
We heard from our friends inside the prison their stories of change and transformation. Vasanti has been in the prison shared her experiences being in the prison now for about 10 years – positive, an aura of transformation for other inmates said “Amma- Give us work. We want to work. We are ready to get trained in anything”.

Some have left their homes as far as Kolkata and Orissa and are here in the prison today. They are worried about their loved ones and wanted us to carry back messages to ministers, their brothers and society at large. The stories are never ending but we carried a simple and powerful message

SOULBATH PEACE FOUNDATION WORKSHOP
WORLD AIDS DAY
A WORKSHOP FOR HIV+ CHILDREN AND HIV+ MOTHERS

Picture
Infected HIV+ children of infected mothers from the age group of 8 – 16 were part of this interaction. Soulbath Peace Foundation had an exclusive reach out initiative for young minds to question all that they wanted to ask about being HIV+ and what it meant for them and their families to live the HIV+ status.

In the eyes that stared back, there was fear of acceptance and love, thinking if we would smile back, half hidden smiles in the faces that should otherwise beam…indeed life will carry on….but leaving behind are footsteps with the children on our walk together, understanding that yes, we all have to carry on to another world …each one his way…but living a life like that at every moment was a choice that we have …from now….when we accept ourselves as mother and parents…..our children begin to smile with more freedom…freedom to be humans …freedom to express that they are normal and that they love to play as others….freedom to be accepted to become air-hostesses and doctors….freedom to dream…a dream!
Soulbath Peace Foundation, Volunteer Voice: First I would like to thank SPF and Sri Raj Bhowmik, for giving me an opportunity to take part in that activity.

I believe that any individual has ability, and should work with that ability to ensure they enjoy their work, if they do so the out put will be enormous. And this is very much required for the development of our nation. I also believe that only when each and every individual develops the nation will develop.

On the first day of the session, I was able to feel their anger.  The question came to me is, -Why are they being the victims? What is the best we can do for them? What will happen to their kids? On the Second day, the only understanding that I had was I am going meet kids affected by HIV.  But on seeing them I was totally speechless or in other words, I was frozen.  Still I have not come out of that and I am thinking of what best I can do for them.

My special thanks to Sri Raj Bhowmik for this heart-touching opportunity.

SOULBATH  PEACE  FOUNDATION
WORKSHOP FOR
TAMILNADU AIDS CONTROL SOCIETY
ON OCCASION OF  WORLD AIDS DAY

Picture
On Dec 3rd, 2009, Soulbath Peace Foundation was invited to work with 70 women from the Positive Women’s Network at the Tamil Nadu AIDS Control society. These women belonged to two vitally important sectors contributing to the impact of the AIDS endemic.
* Widow women who are positive
* Women who are unsupported by their families and are tested positive.

It is startling to discover that in our country we have 2 million people who are infected with the HIV and 5000 are registered who are infected in Chennai city alone. Of these numbers, 38% in India are women and nationally the number of children infected with HIV is not known.

Soulbath Peace Foundation Workshop
'World Disability Day' -
Discovering Oneness in Existence

Picture
It is World Disability Day on Dec 3rd, celebrated & marked around the world. To celebrate this day with unique individuals in our lives who now have a special place in our hearts, volunteers from SPF (Soulbath Peace Foundation) reached Om Creations, Mumbai. Om Creations is a non profit organization that helps create products that are specially made by empowered women who are mentally challenged from different walks of life.
Picture
SPF Volunteer Experience – By Shubha Godbole,

Women from Om Creation were in the age group of 18 to 50+, with Downs Syndrome and other forms of mental retardation. At first I was very apprehensive as to what is it that we can do with this group. Definitely more of cognitive therapy or the like was out of question because I wasn’t sure how much each would grasp. Some may but most won’t. It was my first workshop so with all these question marks in my mind , I went along to Om Creation.

We started with introductions and that was the first step in ice-breaking. We did some group activities like flower Rangoli, where all got involved and enjoyed themselves. We asked them to draw. Their drawing spoke volumes. The only language they understand is that of love…a holding of the hand, a hug, a pat on the back, a touch, a smile of appreciation is all that they want. That is the only thing that each one of them sought…albeit in very unspoken words…

Even after the workshop ended, though I was feeling good about what we had done, the full impact of our work was to come to me only later…3 days later. 3 days after our workshop, I was at SPJ Sadhana high schools’ Annual day fun fair function. SPJ Sadhana High School and Om Creation are closely related. In fact the women at Om Creation are pass outs from Sadhana High School. It is a school for children with special needs. I had volunteered to help their vocational section in baking and handling the cake stall for the two day event. On that day I was at the stall with my friend and two children from the school. Just then Om Creation’s bus arrived with these women from the workshop for the fun fair. These women entered the gate and the moment they saw me, they flocked to me, smiling and laughing and hugging. My friend who was with me at the stall was amazed at their reaction. “Wow”, she said. “They are so happy to see you…they almost look at you as if you are God”. That is when the full impact hit me, of what we have achieved with our workshop in terms of touching these women somewhere deeper than their conscious understanding.

SPF celebrates Diwali with Children with Cancer,KIDWAI Institute, India

Picture
Soulbath Peace Foundation’s unique offering to the world was connecting to 53 children and their parents at the Children’s ward in the Kidwai Cancer Institute, Institute of Oncology, Bangalore.

Volunteers from SAHHEAL, a division of Soulbath Peace Foundation planned a happy day for the kids who ranged from 2 – 15 years. The children at the Kidwai Cancer Centre are inmates at the hospital staying there undergoing chemotherapy that usually lasts for about 3 – 4 months. These children were seen from various parts of India – West Bengal, Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.
Picture
Picture
What we experienced during our interactions were laughter, mischief, attention seeking but all was fair in this situation because everybody became children. Our activities planned included sharing in a personal space, lighting candles, conversations about things that we love doing and fun times, playing with crayons, sharing badges and the finishing surprise chocolates.

As we returned home to our quiet zones to reflect there was nothing that we carried except smiles from angelic faces who gave us love. So much love and happiness that nothing in the world can substitute for.

“Unfathomable awareness about your deeper true self, your life’s goal, your unique ability and your highest potential can be revealed, only if you are able to look deep inside yourself."    - Sri Raj Bhowmik

This awareness that all of us want to seek sometimes in our lives through meditation and enquiry, by going to classes, by searching for the right books, tapes and masters can be truly experienced through the most powerful human aspects of love and compassion. This when truly shared, touches the other person and surely comes back to you in the same undiluted form of pure bliss – and this is true of all of us who experienced it at the Kidwai Cancer Hospital from our little angels who crossed our paths this Diwali.

This experience surely made us reflect on the gratitude factor in our lives and with that essence who ever we are, whatever we do – we have one powerful tool with us – it is the tool of Being Compassionate. It is an emotion that brings you to yourself and the only outcome of it will then be to share naturally – naturally to anyone who comes by our way.

As volunteers we said bye to each other but promised the kids to come back soon in a month. Some of them may stay on, some may pass away into another domain, some new faces may join in but what remains inside each one of us is truly smiles, laughter, naughtiness and innocence that each one touched our lives with.

We feel more human now – that we haven’t lost our humanism after being corporate in the rat race. And surely this human bit that has risen has come from the depths of our own self – My Master smiled through each of the children’s faces that day in the ward and He reminded me again that one didn’t have to do a technique to connect to Him but one just needed to be who they are in their core essence. In our lives this opportunity helped us get aligned to our inner self that is peace and joy.

Soulbath Foundation was proud to be invited at the campuses of 2 prestigious institutions of India that work with the visually impaired – ‘National Association for Blind’, Karnataka Branch, and a circulating library for the visually impaired – ‘Mitrajyothi’.

During the workshop at NAB, 'CORPORitual Values Of Living' (CVOL) audio Cds were provided to the organization and also given out to the participants during the personal interaction session. SOULBATH PEACE FOUNDATION REACHES RAJASTHAN
TEACHER WORKSHOP AND PARENT WORKSHOP IN JODHPUR
(Venue: Sri Aurobindo Centre for New Age Education)

Picture
Soulbath Peace Foundation was invited to Jodhpur to Sri Aurobindo Centre for New Age Education. The main aim was to bridge the gap between the learner, teacher, school and parents to understand and facilitate a more harmonious interaction in a safe learning environment.
Picture
Picture
WORKING WITH TEACHERS:

The primary focus during the interaction was to help teachers become “human coaches” – These coaches creating a learning environment where children would feel safe and secure to make mistakes, grow, understand and eventually learn.

The workshop was attended by 25 teachers across the school and the medium of communication included both Hindi & English. These were designed keeping in mind the social aspects of human behavior towards learning – “when we have fun …when we do…we learn”

We focused on the emotions of the child as a student, the pressure of school & parents influencing their belief systems and in turn each teacher introspected on their own lives to complete their learning spiral. There were some amazing discoveries from teachers about their own selves – some parts in their personalities opening after about 12 years.

This allowed teachers to completely empathize with children and collaboratively working together as a community towards the understanding of the child and creating an environment based on individual learner needs.

SOULBATH PEACE FOUNDATION WORKSHOP
Workshop for Women

IN COLLABORATION WITH THE BANYAN, Chennai

Picture
We had 2 group interactions at The Banyan – firstly with the trainers connecting the root emotions to healing trauma and illness in the lives of the inmates and secondly with the inmates themselves. Trainers who attended the session were psychologists, MSW volunteers, occupational therapist and well wishers of The Banyan family.

We had 35 inmates interacting primarily in Tamil in the workshop. There were no boundaries of recognizing human needs – a humble acceptance from both ends is all that was the language. Using the medium of Art as Therapy, expressions that depicted fragmentations, inspirations and dreams were captured through the essence of colours. Fears of “I don’t know to draw” were broken away by “I now know” with a Hi 5 and a captivating smile from Usha, one of the inmates who also helped in the collaborative activity taking an initiative towards the end.

SOULBATH PEACE FOUNDATION CELEBRATES THE JOY OF CHRISTMAS
WITH TERMINALLY ILL CANCER PATIENTS

Picture
Picture
Soulbath Peace Foundation's, "RAJ BHOWMIK-BTS DREAM" Volunteers celebrated Christmas in 2009, with patients at 'Karunashraya' – An home for terminally ill cancer patients.

Karunashraya means an Abode of Peace – At a time when cure ends, one needs a space for care. This is the philosophy at Karunashraya where care is provided absolutely free in this calm and serene environment.

Our Founder, Sri Raj Bhowmik says - "My whole effort is to bring a new consciousness to people's lives. A consciousness with which they will decide to put a new found awareness in every step that they take in whatever they do in life. These steps multiplied will lead the way towards the beginning of a new era filled with love, joy and peace for oneself and for the global society."

Under the guidance of Sri Raj Bhowmik, SPF’s philosophy has always been to affirm Life - that is conscious and aware. To take this forward in a place where care and hope begins when cure ends, SPF reached out to make the transition on this special day to brighten up for the patients and their families by silent yet intense and engaging interactions.
Picture
Karunashraya reminded us all about a big milestone of death and how this can be crossed through dignity, respect, grace and above all, -LOVE.
